Our mission is to expand opportunities for Americans to learn about and participate in NASA's programs by supporting and enhancing science and engineering education, research, and outreach by delivering high-quality public education programs.
My school, ERAU, had a project funded by the NASA Arizona Space Grant, which allowed a few select paid interns to work as a team to run a 100 person project that involved sending a satellite into space. The satellite in question was a 1U cubesat that tested the degradation of computer RAM against solar radiation as well as the natural atmospheric drag of the satellite at such high altitudes. As structures team subsystem lead, I was charged with making sure the satellite would survive liftoff - being able to survive severe vibration and acoustic anomalies. Although the satellite wasn’t launched until one year after I graduated, the second satellite is already in progress and will be launched in the coming years.
